Cundall’s Vivid Sydney installation is now live

Vivid Habitat

Habit/at is now live.  The 3D installation is located on Circular Quay, in front of the AMP building and we are encouraging everyone to attend and be inspired.

Representing a discarded water bottle lid. The external lighting multiplies in the surface, emphasising that the longevity of plastic waste presents an ever-growing problem. The vibrant and striking multiple lines of light capture people’s attention and imagination. Inside thousands of discarded plastic bags from across the globe are held behind netting on the walls and ceiling.

Visitors are encouraged to come inside and be informed; where they can read the facts and find the fish within the sea of plastic.

Vivid Sydney is the largest festival of light, music and ideas in the Southern Hemisphere. Over 23 days and nights, the festival celebrates Sydney as the creative hub of the Asia-Pacific with large-scale light installations and projections; free family events; music performances and collaborations; and creative ideas, discussion and debate. In its eleventh year Vivid Sydney runs from 24 May to 15 June 2019.

The inclusion of Cundall in the globally renowned lighting festival follows the appointment of leading lighting designer Bettina Easton at the end of 2018. Bettina joined Cundall’s global Light4 team to offer lighting design in Australia.

Cundall’s acoustic team have added a soundscaping to the installation to make occupants feel uncomfortable while reading the shocking facts regarding our plastic waste.

Cundall is encouraging everyone to share their pledges to reduce their own plastic consumption using the hashtag #VividHabit. If we can change our plastic habits, together we change our habitat.

The project has been a collaboration with Plenary Group, Richard Crookes, Onelight Australia and Top Knot Carpentry.
