I retain the principle goal of delivering outstanding lighting design, that enhances the well-being of every user and encourages social interaction. It is with this ethos that we become true composers of our specialism and can apply our creative vision to every space and place. We share a coordinated outlook of how utilising the latest research and anticipating change will deliver lighting that offers more than just light; and seek to provide a platform by which knowledge and experience can be fed back into the industry.

A 3D Design graduate of Manchester School of Art – I am inspired by the physicality of lighting, and the relationships between materials and light. My involvement in the making process enables me to consider narrative as a tactile experience for the user. I follow the notion that just as the texture of products can build up a layered aesthetic to a space – the balance of light and lit elements is the essence of every design.

My approach keeps people at the centre of the creative process; and applies the technical aspects of lighting in a humanistic way. Currently in the final stages of a Master’s degree in light and lighting – I have established an elevated understanding of the harmonies of light. Considering the ever-changing needs of the user leads me to attune my responses; bringing about a bespoke aspect to each design, and lighting experience.

I provide a responsive solution through listening and problem solving.  Bringing focus to the specific characteristics of a space with light, enables it to take on a new dimension. It is with the consolidation of the fine details and the technical aspects of lighting design that results in an enhanced visual experience. Following the completion of a Master’s degree in lighting, I have developed my knowledge and experience of brand fit-out lighting in the retail sector.

I originally began my career in interior design where I discovered my passion for lighting design. I am wholly committed to lighting, my passion is the effects that lighting can have on architectural spaces. Lighting is about more than just achieving an illuminance level, it can emote mood, enhance forms and evoke beauty with dynamics as well as function. I pride myself on thinking outside the square, letting light sculpt and enhance the materials and architecture. Being sympathetic to our surroundings and understand the harmony between light and dark, whilst being ever mindful of our client's sensibilities and requirements. I enjoy working on light art installations and have been involved Sydney’s Vivid festival for the past six years.

It is easy to approach lighting design as way of providing sufficient and efficient illuminance for those we design for. My experience however, has led me to view the practice as a harmonic collision between science and art - that not only requires strategic thinking, but creative consideration at every turn. By interrogating the ways in which light impacts on our mood and general wellbeing, I endeavour to produce design that breaks the conventions of previous lighting schemes.

It is the interaction between an individual and their surroundings that steers my passion for lighting, architecture and interiors. My journey before Light4 has taken me through the decorative arts and has ultimately aided me with a resource of feature lighting knowledge. An interest in branding and graphic outcomes allows me to visually interpret spaces effectively; and I am invested in channelling quality into my design approach whilst remaining inventive throughout.

My interests are of all things art and the arts. It is by appreciating architecture, music, theatre and literature; and their relationship to one another; that leads to enterprising design – and I strive to harness this approach in my own work. I find an enjoyment in noticing the un-noticed and this ultimately led me to lighting design. Following a move from the coast to the city, I have found a deeper appreciation for urban living and of the impact the lighting design of buildings has on us all.

I apply a systematic approach to design - considering both the theoretical and practical aspects of lighting. Extending my understanding of the emotive responses to light has allowed me to focus more specifically on its effects on mood and atmosphere. As such, I am inspired by the practice of empathetic lighting; and look to have a broad understanding of the design logic from various cultures.
